May Challenge

MAY CHALLENGE ~ for show and tell at the July meeting ~

The next challenge (should you wish to accept it!!) is to create something inspired by a piece of artwork using solids!  This ‘something’ can be anything you like – a mini quilt, a wall hanging, a pin cushion, a lap quilt, a pillow, a bag, journal cover etc – you decide!  Let your imagination run wild and go for it!

As inspiration, there is an exhibit currently on at the Courtauld Gallery called Mondrian // Nicholson: In Parallel which runs until the 20th of May.  Other suggestions are to visit the Tate Modern, visit your local library for art books, or browse the internet to find a piece of art that you love which inspires you to create something using solid fabrics.

In summary – be inspired by a piece of art and interpret that into something using solid fabrics.  Bring an image of your inspiration with you to the July meeting to show with your created piece.  Have fun, think outside the box and try stepping out of your comfort zone!!  This is a “challenge” after all!

Visit The Courtauld website for more information, for opening and admission information and for amazing pictures of artworks by artists such as Mondrian, Nicholson and Keeling, to name but a few!

****Please note that there is no exchange/swap scheduled for the 8th July [note the new date!] meeting as it will be a big show and tell meeting sharing this challenge and the things made at the Fat Quarterly retreat

Tate Online is a great resource as well as they have so many images up.
I’ve picked my artist and thing I’ve selected the work, but that may change!
