February Challenge: St. Valentine

February Challenge: St Valentine

The February Challenge is to make something quilted that is inspired by St Valentine & Valentine’s Day.

The item can be any size and although it can be a quilt it does not have to be.  It could be, for example, a set of coasters or placemats, a table runner, cushions or a bag.

How you interpret the theme is entirely up to you.  For example, you could be inspired by the traditional colours of pink and red, you could use fabric printed with hearts and flowers, use paper piecing to create a heart block, use Amy Butler’s ‘Love’ fabric range, or make Anna Maria Horner’s absolutely beautiful ‘Love Emblem’.  (It’s a free pattern available here:  http://annamariahorner.com/love.emblem.pdf )

The fun in the challenge is to see how each person interprets the same theme differently.  There is no pressure to create something incredible, just have a bit of fun and maybe do something that takes you out of your comfort zone (hence: Challenge!)

If you are going to miss the March meeting you can still take part!  All responses to the Challenge will be posted on the Guild blog.  I’m working on a system of voting/sponsorship of prizes, and will blog/email details of those asap.

Happy Quilting!
